THE MYTH, THE LEGEND AND THE LEGACY OF BOND

Cyril Blake’s sell-out hit from the Edinburgh Fringe explores the myth, legend and legacy of James Bond – and what it all means to guys trying to find their way through life and love. Stephen has always wanted to be James Bond. He’s got a tux, a fancy watch and he shakes everything he drinks. But is this a good idea? Bond is a misogynist dinosaur, right?

Journey through 60 years of Bond and 30 years of Stephen as we find out if he can fulfil his father’s idea of masculinity without becoming toxic.

This sellout hit is directed by nine-time nominee and two-time OFFIE winner, Matthew Parker and stars Cyril Blake as ‘Stephen’.

Following a premiere at the Adelaide Fringe Festival in February 2025, BONDING then toured the UK through the summer of 2025 to venues including Theatre Royal Bath, Chelmsford, Hull Truck, Corn Exchange Newbury, Hope Mill Manchester, Worthing Pavillion Theatre, The New Wolsey Theatre Ipswich, Wilton’s Music Hall London and Assembly George Square as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I think to capture an audience and make them cry (I shed many tears) with so little in front of them, is a big testament to how well created the show is.

The Wee Review

The production is slick and well-paced, with Parker’s direction ensuring that the transitions between humour and heartbreak are seamless.

Director Matthew Parker brings a clean, confident hand to the staging. With only one actor and minimal props, the production could easily feel sparse, but Parker ensures the piece remains dynamic and visually engaging.

You don’t have to be a Bond fan to enjoy this show… It is a thoroughly enjoyable blast… hugely thoughtful and emotionally packed
